Great Cliffs Weyr « Result #2 on Sept 9, 2009, 8:47pm »
The Western Continent ~~ A developing 'sphere...
In the past turns living in the west has proved to be a challenge for holder, crafter, and dragonrider alike. It's quick expansion and colonization brought Pern's best and brightest to chisel out a place for themselves among other great men and woman, but of course not everyone has Pern's best interest at heart...
Great Cliffs Weyr stands as a traditional weyr there to protect all of the holds that are beholden to it, and it is also well known for a certain white wine that often puts Benden white to shame. The most prominent hold that looks to Great Cliffs is Kajano Hold which is well known for it's special brand of runners (the Kajano Red). The Lord Holder tends to make a killing in bets every race day as he's a shrewd breeder. Crashing Seas Weyr is known for a loose organizational structure, and a curious lack of traditional weyrleadership. They welcome anybody and everybody with open arms normal or misfit alike. Rivers Crossing Hold declared itself beholden to no one, and engages heavily in watch-wher breeding programs to propagate the species. They often work closely with the miners of the Erdan Island Chain as there is a high demand for them there.
Great Cliffs Weyr
The weyr itself is backed by a sprawling chain of mountains, and the weyr is housed in a dormant volcanic remnant allowing an easy transition from caves to weyrs and all that was necessary in between. The tall peaks and many available ledges lends Great Cliff's its name.
There is only one Weyrbowl floor entrance to the Weyr, and it's watched carefully at all times. The only other method of transportation inside the Weyr is by dragon. There are two rivers that lead out of the Weyr from the Weyrlake in the far corner of the bowl, but they wouldn't be easy entrances for man or beast. It's cool in the summer, and warm in the winter as it's heated by the remaining volcanic activity that also heats the hatching grounds and the indoor hot springs of the Weyr.
Great Cliffs Weyr would be a far more easygoing sort of place if not for past troubles. An organization engineered the theft of eggs, and there have been other nefarious schemes put into play so the weyr takes great caution with visitors and in going as well as out going traffic. The Weyr also created a stand alone force called the Guardians to investigate illicit activities as the Weyr itself didn't quite have the finesse and secrecy needed to get the job done. It seems though that when they beat down one problem another arises in it's place. Great Cliffs might not have the deadliest Threadfall, but there are many other dangers that dragonriders much watch out for. Watch the red star in the sky, but don't forget to watch your back.
The Weyr's main export would be the fine wine that squinty eyed vintners take very secretive care of in their own private section of the lower caverns. They produce a decent red, but nothing can compare with the white. Kajano Hold is mostly in the business of runners, and especially a particular breed that fame has labeled the Kajano Red. It's the Lord Holder's personal breeding stock, and he viciously guards the secret of the lineage. There is also heavy sea trade and export since there are many rivers and easy sea access. For the most part the hold and Weyr are on very amiable terms, but there may be a time coming when that is not quite the case...
Crashing Seas Weyr
Little is known about the Weyr inhabited by those who are not wanted elsewhere seemingly. It's origins can be dated sometime before Great Cliffs, but it seems to have been abandoned in haste and perhaps only partially completed. There is an observatory and quite a few records, but no one seems terribly committed in delving into what secrets Crashing Seas may be hiding. It's led not by Gold or Bronze, but by some mysterious others. Friendly folk are welcome, and it's considered best to let them keep to themselves. On a dragon is the only way in or out so it would seem, and so far Great Cliffs has only delicately prodded at the hidden mysteries of the old and mostly forgotten weyr.
It would seem that the Weyr is beginning to attract more members as it is slowly cleaned and renovated, and perhaps one day Crashing Seas will find itself a fully functioning weyr. At the moment it's unconventional leadership style seems to be suiting it well, but there is no doubt it is slowly establishing a foot hold as it's own entity.

The Search has begun...
Yes, the search indeed has begun. Eggs are on the sands, eleven strong from Golden Jeanellyth. The word for Search Riders has been given. And like leaves in the wind they scatter to all the reaches of Pern for Candidates. Those who show promise, those who will give us more numbers and a partner for those hardening eggs holding their precious gifts.
I may no longer be Weyrwoman. But being Senior I have the fortune to know of certain events before anyone else in the Weyr. Holli is a strong girl and shows just as much promise as I have ever wanted in our new Weyrwoman. The Bronzerider N'kor looks strong himself, and I can only hope he is willing to hold up to the challenges and stress of being a Weyrleader. I've seen many who cracked under the pressure. Where it seemed each time a Queen rose a new Weyrleader took the reigns.
I hope that is not so. While Weyrwomen are forever, and Weyrleaders can come and go. We need a stable Rider who can lead the Weyr until things are once again right. Our numbers are still small compared to others. The North is still recovering though I've heard a few Gathers were being held. I have met with some of the Weyrleaders of the North who see my Turns of experience as a boom. They have asked my thoughts on Solace's new Leaders. I give them with pride that our Weyr looks to be under good hands. While pleased they give news that some Weyrs are not at all recovering as well as one would hope.
Hearing this I feel my heart beat faster. While the common folk see Weyrs as united...little do they know that sometimes, that isn't so. Is this what I had been fearing? Is this the calm before the storm that I knew would come? I had wished I was only jumping at shadows...those shadows look to slowly becoming reality. All I can do is prepare, and prepare both Weyrwoman Holli and Weyrleader N'kor.
Hopefully the thought of a Gather that was promised and still in the works will give us a moment of peace before this storm I feel breaks. In the pass many Weyrs had refused to join another to abandon their home. And I will not have Solace, newly made be the one they aim for control over.
Welcome to Solace

Re: Ayden Weyr « Result #4 on Jul 26, 2009, 5:55am »
BECAUSE THERE IS ALWAYS A BEGINNING
Ayden Weyr: a place created by dragonriders of all ages to be a home, a sanctuary and a protector. But people wanted more, they wanted to be free of everything else, they wanted a haven where they could relax, free from everything they had ever done, free from their past. So they moved South. The North Western coats of the Southern Continent was made their home, and they made a Weyr to rival any other with it's size and complexity. They chose experienced riders, strong riders and Queens that would sire and dam the new Southern generations of dragons. In the First Interval, Ayden Weyr was created, announced open and people and riders alike flocked to it.
AND WE CAN NEVER FORGET
But people had family in the North, dragons had their hatching sands and despite the new start, people were still worried about the past. They kept in touch with the Northern Weyrs, offering support and getting support as the dragon population flourished and eclined. Transfers were made as people began feeling more homesick, but the new generation kept firm hold to the South which stopped any talk of the Weyr being abandoned. Things moved along smoothly, babies and eggs hatched, dragon graduated, people moved on with their lives. Their bond with the North grew stronger everyday, each hatching brining more and more vists to either continent till soon it seemed like the South was merely a part of the North, and vice versa. People came on holiday to the Holds and Halls that had built up under the Weyrs ender care, and sometimes they even visited the Weyr itself.
BUT THINGS CHANGE
Threadfall struck. The South was left unprepared, with too few dragon wings finalised and far too many dragons being used as transport to the North. Things needed to be changed; rapidly. Nobody suggested that dragon travel should be stopped, but soon all the Weyrs were argueing about it, pushing forward names and accusing each other like children. Ayden was at the top of the list. Still small compared to the Northern Weyrs, it was fond of the Northern Weyrs help, it's support. Without it it's dragon population wuld shrink, quite a few of them belonging to Northern Weyrs but only here to help. Thread had ruined everything, not only crops and land. They were faced with choice after choice as more and more riders were called from the South to the North, as contatc grew less and less and the dragon population was spread thin as casualties rose and transport between the two continents continued. Finally they were left with only one: seperate completel, or face extinction. Many chose to leave after that, the Holds and Halls emptying slightly as people picked up and left with the last of the Northern riders. But those that were born there, those that were more in touch with the South stayed. And they fought.
AND WE MUST FIGHT THROUGH THEM
The memory of the North slowly dissapeared, being reduced to rumours in little over twenty years, and still with the rest of the Pass to go. Finally they were nothing more then legends and myths, bed times stories for children. The tale of how Ayden became Ayden was little more then fairy tale. It's founders all but forgotten, and it's heroes dead and buried. Things changed as knowledge was lost, and as the Second Interval came and went, many more coming after it, people grew hidebound.
BECAUSE WE WILL LIVE
And now Ayden faces more challenges after Turns of growing ignorant have been and gone. The lack of breeding stock in dragons have forced new and strange colours to pop up, from the two Silvers, to the two Bloodstones: Silvers, capable of clucthing with hide like pure moonlight, Azures, almost as large as Blues with a blue tinge to their hide, Crimsons, with a second hide covered in stains, and finally Blacks, stealing their brothers second hide only for it to make them darker. Rumours have sprung up, tales spun of armies massing, dragons in astounding numbers grouping over the ocean, and not even Ayden Weyr dares to investigate. But of course, they will not flinch, life must go on.
It has been over two Turns since the plague hit the Northern Continent. Many died, many were victims. The few left were force to take the weigh of those who had fallen. Thread still fell, it did not wait for the plague to subside. It did not care and in it's silver fall many more died. I watched on as my Weyr began to crumble, I watched as cries for help were left unanswered.
“Quarantine! We must quarantine the North!” Was what many Weyrleaders and Lord Holders demanded. I did not agree, nor at the time did my weyr mate who was Weyrleader of Crescent. The Master crafters stood behind every word the Riders said, and in the end there was a quarantine. It was insane! Most of the Weyrs could not fly Fall with a full wing! We needed to band together, but no. They were scared, as scared as I was. The total of death each day was stacking, it was traumatizing. The Queens we had were falling ill, many jumped between with or without their Rider. The ones left behind rose only to lay lifeless clutches. Madness, pain, suffering, and still we could do nothing but try. In a sea of my own tears I watched as the newer colors fell, they were hit harder and quicker.
Something needed to be done! It was clear the quarantine wasn't working! I rounded up my last surviving Wing Leaders, and Queenriders. I told them my plan, it was madness itself. But what did we have left to lose? I told them to spread the word that we were going to leave the North. Away from the plague, and hope that we could survive. That those left would not be lost. As the days went by till the date of when we would leave, many came willing to try anything. Anything at all. The day we left, I still felt tears fall down my cheeks. Many of my Riders could not come and I felt, some how I felt, that this was the last time I would see them. We left, left with heavy and broken hearts.
West, the one land that was never looked upon for settlement. We found a canyon perfect for building a new Weyr. A new life. And so we did. We survived the plague! Our young Queen is now close to age where she shall rise. As late Crescent's Weyrwoman and Solace's Weyrsteward, I feel that we will once more rise from the ashes anew! The Weyr is open to any who wish to settle here. The North has been ravaged, but still holds life. The other Weyrs are struggling to rebuild their numbers. But the Queens are rising, and one has even laid a clutch that has hatched!
Pern will survive, and so will the life on it.

109 Innocence « Result #7 on May 5, 2009, 4:14pm »
Innocence.... To most the word means purity, but to others the word Innocence brings another thought to mind. In the mid nineteenth century, in a secret organization known simply as the Black Order, the word Innocence causes many to think of the word Weapon. Both interpretations of the word are true. The Innocence are one hundred and nine pieces of a large divine substance that was washed away during the Great Flood, the same flood that "purged" the world of all evil. What exactly are the weapons known as Innocence designed to combat?
The answer is Akuma, demonic machines created by the Millennium Earl, an enigmatic sorcerer whose only goal is the Destruction of the World. The Earl and his army of Akuma search relentlessly for the Innocence in hope of discovering one of the pieces known as the Great Heart, an Innocence which guarantees vast amounts of power. The Black Order and its Exorcists, humans with the ability to weaponize Innocence, fight against the Earl in an attempt to capture the Great Heart before the Earl and his minions.
Our story begins with Allen Walker, a young exorcist, finishing his journey to the Black Orders secret base and joining their ranks. Although only one new member is not enough for the Black Order to be able to combat the Earl's ever growing army.
Will you take up arms against the monstrous figure known as the Millennium Earl, and join the Black Order? Or will you allow your heart to be consumed, and be transformed into one of his many Akuma, giving up your innocence in the process?
Red River Weyr: 3rd Pass Pern « Result #8 on May 4, 2009, 8:38am »
Red River Weyr 3rd Pass Pern RP
Year 72 - Red River Weyr was founded in the foothills above the temperate tablelands in the central northern continent. The first Weyrwoman was Fiora of gold Ravath. The first Weyrleader was M'lel of bronze Duseth. Their first clutch consisted of 31 eggs with one queen, Jugrenth.
Beginning during the Second Pass, a trend developed amongst the Pernese. Though green dragons would Impress to male and female Candidates, fewer and fewer women were being Searched to Stand on the sands for the new babies. This was due to several factors -- holders were unwilling to send their daughters to the Weyr, preferring to keep them home to marry off to establish alliances or for personal gain. This move was also influenced by the commonfolks' interpretation of the Weyrs as an unwelcome draw upon healthy young men and women, (even a bastion of immorality).
Red River Weyr alone seemed to be immune to this trend. Their dragons still Searched out boys and girls alike, and female greenriders were given equal rights as their male counterparts, permitted to fly Threadfall with the wings. This perturbed many Holders, and even some of the other Weyrs. After all, a queenrider was a woman of upstanding virtues, inner strength, ensurers of Pern's future. Greenriders were promiscuous, emotional... the stigma attached to female greenriders grew and grew, and while Red River Weyr enjoyed pleasant (if cool) relationships with the other Weyrs, its relationship with the Holds suffered.
Currently, Red River Weyr is seen as the 'bastard child' of the Weyrs -- the last founded, a place to send riders that do not necessarily fit into the strictly stratified society that Pern has developed. It is a forward-thinking place, interesting in that it is actually perhaps the last Weyr to hold to the Old Ways.
Year 507 - Current Turn (late 3rd Interval)
Old Grananth is curled on the sands, hovering broodily over her clutch. The gold's wings are thickening, her shoulders gnarled and stiff with old scars. Many believe that this past Flight will probably be the aging queen's last, a meager clutch of 12 eggs. But wonder of wonders, she has lain a golden egg, the only one in eight years. Her rider, the Weyrwoman Esme, sits beside her great head, heartbroken, for her weyrmate of so many years, the Weyrleader J'elg, died not long after Grananth's final Flight, and his graying bronze Ovoth disappeared Between.
The Weyr is in limbo. Many riders fear that it will be dissolved, the riders distributed between the other Weyrs. But Grananth would allow none near her precious final brood.
The small clutch produced not only a new queen, but three oddly coloured dragons: Rose Golds Hectith and Trelilith, and Pewter Tecsolth. Are they the result of Grananth's illness? What will become of these strange new colours? And will they be enough to save the weyr?
Welcome to a world beyond your wildest imagination!
Dragon Canyon Weyr was previously a site that ran 10 years on msn groups. We had members of all walks of life, with one thing in common: we all loved Anne McCaffery's Dragonriders of Pern, and we all had a love of written role play. What we didn't like was close mindedness, judgmental behaviors, and the inability to let the imagination go free and create a world where everyone could feel immersed in it, and like they belong. Fairness and equality to all our members is something we strive for, and if you're not having fun, nor are we!
Plots are the key to any good site, and we already have a million set up that will last us ages to come! New creatures, dragon colors, the ability to have half-animal characters! Genetic testing and a plague that wiped out everyone over the age of nineteen, leaving the Pern world in shambles which will slowly but surely be rebuilt. The return of thread, the chaos of battles! The option to be anything you want or desire in the Pern world is yours: a crafter, a dragonrider, a holder--you can let yourself become whatever your heart desires.
Here, we don't give your clutches out--YOU do! So long as you keep to the few rules we have, we let you decide the future and fate of your own dragon and your dragon's clutches. Here, no one will judge you based on your writing skills so long as you are trying, try for 2-3 paragraphs, and are decently literate. Here, we believe in the 'getting what you earn' system. No playing favorites, and things are often decided by the roll of a dice! We do different types of hatchings, from colorless to pm'ing you and you alone to let you know you impressed, to outright impression. We like to keep things interesting! Plus, there's the option to be a wherhandler here! We have wherling lessons and wher impressions which are held on the same level of importance as dragon hatchings.
If you're a strict canon person, this is not the site for you unless you're willing to let your mind go free and accept that imagination is what this site is all about. We like to think of ourselves as a fantasy Pern site that sticks to the rules for the Pern section, but with alterations. However, we welcome one and all to the site, because here we have a friendly community where everyone is valued. If you think you're ready, why not come on in and take a look around? Welcome to Dragon Canyon Weyr!
